Aix-en-Provence, South France

A new church plant in Aix-en-Provence where there is a sizeable university. Several young families have moved into the area to start this new venture. They obtained a property which had been formerly a restuarant and two appartments. One of the appartments and restuarant are now being made into one larger space for use as a church space and student outreach.

L’eau Vive courtyard

L’eau Vive is a camp/conference centre in the South of France. They needed to make some adjustments to the height of the courtyard so that it can be accessible to wheelchair users. With the heavy seasonal rainfall the slope had to be sufficient but not too severe for wheelchairs traversing the courtyard. This also gives a suitable area for outdoor dining away from the full blast of the wind and sun.

Paul Dodds, Alan Park, Mark-Andre (France) and Tim (Canada) worked on this project.

Angola projects, June to July 2016

We were asked to carry out some repairs to the Land Rover fleet at Saurimo and Kamundambala as well as renovation in a mission house at Beula. The first job was to replace a cracked chassis with a new one. This was completed in less than a week by Mervin Hanna and Phil Kennedy.

At Beula, the house occupied by the family was being extended with a new section, and the existing building was being modified to include a new bathroom, store and laundry facilities. Extra lighting and repairs to power sockets improved the facilities.

Back at Kamundambala a timing belt was replaced and brake vacuum pump fitted among other routine maintenance to these heavily used vehicles.

Foundation-Totai, Trinidad, Bolivia

The centre where the Foundation Totai ministry is based had some unfinished buildings; a request was made to complete these to be used as dormitory accommodation for the clinic and also for housing teams from north America and Europe who sometimes travel out to help.

The area is low lying which made issues of drainage very troublesome, and became a priority for the two man team when they arrived. Paul and Aaron have travelled widely in their work with Brass Tacks, but the South America experience was one which they shall long remember with affection.

St Lunaire Project, France

St Lunaire centre is a Summer camp centre for young people in Brittany, France. Over the years Brass Tacks have done several projects at the centre including dormitory renovations and access ramp for wheelchair use.

This was the largest wooden structure we have ever been involved with and we were glad to have a team who included French and British workers. Meal times were lively, and I am not sure how much of the conversation was understood by either side! But converse we did and we were well looked after by Jean-Mark and Antoine.

Amano Mission School, Chingola, Zambia

The school provides education for primary and secondary age groups as well as boarding facilities. We have been involved at various stages in the development of the facilities which includes hostel accommodation, library made from old shipping containers, staff houses and laterally an expansion of the sewerage system.

Over the years Colin Breeze has made many visits to Amano and he has just returned from a further month where he was overseeing this latest project.
