Projects for 2010

The following projects have been arranged for 2010, God willing. It is hoped that we will have enough volunteers to be able to complete all the work - it's going to be a busy year again! The dates indicated below are provisional and could be subject to some changes. Other projects may become available, so it is best to contact the office if you think you might be able to volunteer.


Sakeji School, North West Province, Zambia

When: Starting about June 2010 until at least September

Skills needed: General foreman/site manager, bricklayers, carpenters, electricians (July or August), general skills, plumbing, tiling.

Sakeji School, Zambia

The project: Sakeji School is a Christian primary boarding school situated near Ikelenge in a small finger of land which lies between Angola and Congo, in the remote northern tip of the North Western Province of Zambia. Sakeji can accommodate up to one hundred students, but presently there are seventy one, representing some ten different nationalities. Almost all of these are boarders between the ages of 6 and 13. The staff usually includes 14 missionary teachers and care-givers from Europe, North America and Australasia, who minister to the educational, spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the children.

The School is in need of a new dining room and kitchens with associated stores. It is proposed that these will be constructed as an extension to an existing building.

Nyangombe Christian Training Centre, Zambia

When: Starting ASAP (minimum 2 month stay)

Skills needed: Time served carpenters with bench skills

The project: Nyangombe Mission is based in a rural area in the remote north west corner of Zambia. The focus of the mission is the Bible Centre, which provides bible study courses. There is also a carpentry school, which aims to teach carpentry and woodworking skills to a number of students, over the period of a year. For a number of years now Brass Tacks has been involved with sending carpenters to help train the students enrolled on the carpentry course. Pictures can be found on our flickr pages.


Amano Christian School, Zambia

When: From mid-February

Skills needed: The ability to organize a building project and supervise others undertaking work under your instruction

The project: Amano Christian School is a reletively new project to form a Christian school which can provide a high quality of education to fee paying students. The fees from paying students are then used to provide free scholarships to orphans, who will make up at least 10% of the student numbers. This project is to assist in supervising the current building projects underway at the school whilst the present Site Manager takes a furlough. CMML Transport Mission, Zambia

When: 2010

Skills needed: General foreman/site manager, building trades.

The site of CMML Transport Mission

The project: CMML Transport Mission are based in the centrally-located Copperbelt region of Zambia close to the mining town of Chingola. The building plot is adjacent to Ipusukilo Childrens Centre, which Brass Tacks have been involved with during 2008 and 2009.

The aim of the mission is to provide logistical support to missionaries within the country and enable goods to be transported across the country. This project to help with the construction of accommodation for the mission drivers.


Titus Discipleship Training Centre, Blantyre, Malawi

The proposed building site

When: Starting about June 2010 until December

Skills needed: General foreman/site manager (the work will include establishing the building site, connecting services, purchase materials, employment of local labour), bricklayers, carpenters, general skills.

The project: This is the start of a new project on a fresh building plot. The first building is to be a multi-purpose building for the use of the centre.


Le Havre, France

When: Probably March - April

Skills needed: Good DIY, decorators, plasterer, electrician etc.

The project: The aim is to redecorate the whole (or as much as possible) of their premises. A wall is to be ry-lined and part of the ceiling. To construct a sloping roof surface over small flat roof using timbers and corrugated iron sheeting. To test and upgrade the electrical system. Volunteers can give one or two weeks or more.
