About Brass Tacks
Brass Tacks is a registered charity who for 21 years has been ‘serving those who serve' by responding to requests of help from Christian missionaries, churches and mission organisations. We provide practical support for specific projects. The projects normally involve the construction or renovation of buildings, but sometimes other infrastructure such as micro hydo-electric plants and more recently vehicle/generator mechanics.
Our Mission is to;
a) Relieve missionaries and full time Christian workers of their maintenance, mechanical and building work
b) Build new or extend existing buildings
c) Encourage Christians by involving them in mission work
d) Train local workers in various construction trades
At present we have a full time worker and 80 volunteers who have worked on a total of 150 projects in many different countries. Most of the jobs are in developing countries in sub-saharan Africa.
Normally there are several different projects during the course of a year for which volunteers are needed. Volunteers may be required to have certain practical skills depending on the type of work involved. Most will go out for between a few weeks to a few months, depending on their availability and location of the project.
